A Sandwatch Database Training Workshop was held at the BelleVue Dominican Bay Hotel in the Dominican Republic on 30th May 2014. The participants were teachers and educators from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago. Most of the participants were actively involved in Sandwatch.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr Dave Gray from Canada, the Designer of the Database, and he was assisted by Dr. Gillian Cambers.
The workshop started with an overview of the Database, which is organised according to the chapters in the Sandwatch Manual. The participants logged into the Database and were taken step-by-step through the administrative procedures. After this they worked on adding descriptive information, photos and sketch maps to their beach pages, and some participants practised adding data.
The workshop evaluation showed that the participants were very happy with the content of the workshop however, several participants mentioned the need for more time to practice entering their data. This recommendation will be taken into account for future training sessions on the Sandwatch International Database.
